On this tour we will enjoy a special part of California’s Wine Country just a short drive from San Francisco. Sonoma County boasts breathtaking scenery, with an off-the-beaten-track, laid back vibe. This region has all the wine making heritage, scenery and quality of Napa, with a unique, still “undiscovered” ambiance.

Sonoma boasts a portfolio of micro-AVAs that are some of the most diverse in the world. They can grow everything here, and are a particularly special destination for lovers of refined white and sparkling wines.
During our approximately 90 minute drive from SF, we will cross the Golden Gate Bridge, look down onto the harbors of Sausalito, and enter a countryside the feels a world away from the hustle and bustle of the City.
Sonoma County is all about the land. With its rolling hills, windswept valleys and secret canyons, it has some of the most interesting topography - and maritime influenced terroir for growing grapes. There are also few rules here to limit anyone’s creativity. It truly is an adventurous wine makers dream!
Our tour will focus on the winemaking process starting with the farm. How do wine makers choose where to grow, and what varietals? How do they protect and cultivate their vineyard to make sure that their fruit is just perfect for the crush? Learn about the secrets of cultivating grapes that ultimately become world-class vino. During our time together we will discuss Sonoma County in relation to the Napa Valley growing area, as well as draw comparisons with Old World oenology.
We will plan to visit 2 wine growing properties, before or after lunch. We’ll have the opportunity to explore the vineyards in a vehicle or on foot, stop and feel the soil, inspect the rows, and depending on the season, perhaps also try some of the grape "berries" straight from the vine. Of course no visit to wine country is complete without sampling the finished product. Our tour will include a complete tasting flight of premium award winning wines at both stops.
On this day, we recommend a stop at the charming and historic square for a sit down lunch or a casual al-fresco picnic in the garden. This is a lovely place to admire beautiful redwood trees, enjoy some window shopping, or an additional wine tasting. Alternatively, we can also arrange a terrace lunch for you on one of our estates. Its your choice, allow us to make all the reservations and assemble a picnic basket, or decide to be spontaneous and try whatever hits-the-spot that day.
